The Pamart Cup
Hoddesdon & Rye Park v Much Hadham 12th Sept 2015
Result won 129-92.5
This was the 2nd leg of the Pamart Cup, with Rye park holding a 26 shot lead from the first leg and hosting the 2nd leg they were clearly up for reclaiming the cup. Much Hadham struggled to arrive with a full team so lost 25% on 3 rinks. The match was tight and at the half way stage we only lead by 4 shots on the day, however with 26 shots in hand it would always be difficult for Much Hadham.
Tim Maynard’s rink were our highest winning rink and out bowled their opponents winning 31-9, Tim’s rink included Dave Fussell, Jean Matthews and debutant Mike Wilkins. Walter Richardson and Terry Mascot’s rinks both had good wins, also we had 2 drawn rinks and one loss.
So we regained The Pamart Cup with an overall win of 72.5, unfortunately Much Hadham forgot to bring the cup with them and they will be handing the cup to us on Wednesday evening.

The 3 Wood Challenge 29th August
After the original date being cancelled due to adverse weather conditions all 21 bowlers were ready to take the green. This format is totally different to anything we play during the season, so this format always produces some great bowling. This year was no exception as we saw Colin Milner taking on Brian Metzner in the 3 Wood Cup Final, both bowlers deserved to reach the final as they bowled well all day. The Final was very exciting and Brian Metzner came away with a 6-2 victory over Colin Milner, Well done Brian. In the Plate final we saw last years winner Tim Maynard playing late entrant (thanks for stepping in) Richard Mansfield, Tim won this game 6-2. Finally the Spoon final Martin Mountford played Jean Matthews, Jean won this 8-0.
The Rose Bowl & Parkhill Trophies 28th August
On a wonderful sunny evening at Rye Park the crowds turned out to support both teams, with an estimated crowd of around 100 they were not disappointed. The Ladies match (The Rose Bowl) was a close affair, however our ladies just failed to win back this trophy going down 4-2 losing by 9 shots overall. The men however managed to retain the Parkhill Trophy with the same score 4-2 and winning by 9 shots overall. Both our men and ladies bowled very well. A great event and one that is looked forward to every year. Check out the Gallery for pictures.

The Presidents Gala – Sunday 23rd August
After the hottest day of the year, Sunday was one of the wettest. With the start delayed due to heavy rain and no one willing to step on to the green. However the rain eased and all 30 bowlers took their position on the green. The President made a short speech and off we went. After 3 matches Colin Milner’s triples were leading and had to face Brian Holding’s triples who were in second place so it made for a very interesting conclusion to the day. With the match still in the balance a draw was declared, so our winners were Sue Metzner, Jeff Hardcastle & Colin Milner with Brian Holding, Tony Lacey and Don Stevenson. Well to everybody who for some great bowling in trying conditions
Shortly after the bowls the BBQ was ready and the stampede started, there was plenty of food and everybody enjoyed the great BBQ cooked by Ben the Presidents son (thank you Ben). Overall a great day,

Mens & Ladies County League Overview 2015
After a good season from our men we were just waiting for the the last few results. With only Northaw & Cuffley in a position to catch us they had to play 2 games this week. They managed a 3-3 draw against Rosedale on Monday 17th August. They also played Sele Farm on 20th August and they needed a 6-0 win to beat our points total by 1 point, which they managed to do. Overall a good season for HRPBC men, with a lot of new bowlers tasting the more competitive side of bowls and proving they are up to the challenge. Lets look forward to 2016.
Our ladies had their best season ever in the Ladies County League, so we are now looking forward to seeing our ladies move further up the table in 2016. Our new lady bowlers are improving all the time and there is no reason why they cannot beat their points total next season. Lets look forward to 2016.

We have checked our paperwork and we do have confirmation from them and it would appear that this was an error on their part. They have apologised for their error.
Aston Match cancelled
Yet another matched cancelled by our opponents, this time it was our home match on Saturday 13th June, against Aston Bowls Club. This was the third game this season cancelled due to our opponents unable to field a team. We will try and re-arrange, however we do not have many free dates. Apologies to all our members who were looking forward to bowling against these teams.

President v Captain Sunday 26th April
With over 50% of the club members taking part in our first home game of the season and with 2 of our new recruits taking place (Tony Andrews & Peter Hayden), the future looks good for Hoddesdon & Rye Park Bowling Club. This fixture is normally bowled in mid July, however we decided that it should be the curtain raiser for the new season ahead, and what a success it was. The President and Captain arrange a lovely tea for after the game which everybody appreciated even the Strawberry Flan.
The match was always a tight affair with lots of good bowling from both the Presidents team and the Captains team. With the Presidents team winning on 3 rinks and the Captains team only winning on 1 rink, the Presidents team ended up winners by 83-77.
Correction
Just missing out on opening game.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park v Aston
Result at Aston 62-80, Saturday 25th April
Our first game of the season at Aston was very hard work for our bowlers. The green was very heavy and caught a few of our bowlers out early on, however the team performed well but Aston came out on top this year. We had only one winning rink and that was captain Richard Rogers winning by 14-13, he was bowling with Toni Lacey and Dave Lofthouse, so well done to them.

Hoddesdon & Rye Park 121-112 Much Hadham (Aug 31st)
The Pamart Cup
With Hoddesdon & Rye Park 20 shots behind after the first leg of the Pamart Cup we were hoping for a better outcome. However with 3 rinks winning and 3 losing it was just to be to much to pull back. At the half way stage we were only 11 shots behind, we did rally and after approx 17 ends we were 22 shots up so a net lead of 2, but a strong finish by Much Hadham saw them finish strongly and take the cup back to Much Hadham.
Colin Milner had our highest winning rink with Les Austin, Jim Mason and Gloria Hardy winning 30-10, Bob Hayter’s rink won 24-14 he was assisted by Ann Mountford, Alice Richardson and Alan Blackwell, Dave Fussell also had a win and he was joined by Ron Izzard, Peter Francis and Jean Matthews winning 25-16. Result – The Rose Bowl & The Park Hill Trophy (Aug 29th)
The Rose Bowl is played annually between Rye Park & Rosehill Ladies.
The Park Hill Trophy is played annually between Rye Park & Rosehill Men. The format for both competitions is the same: one pair, one triple and one rink of Ladies and Gents. The scoring is 1 point for a win, or if a match is drawn half a point is awarded. However if the match is level at one and a half points each, the match will be decided on shot difference, if this is still level one extra end will be bowled, the teams that play the extra end are decided at the start of competition by drawing of scorecards.
The Rose Bowl was won by Rosehill 2-1. Gloria Hardy & Ann Mountford won their pairs 29-10, a great win for our ladies. The ladies triples was skipped by Chris Miles with Alice Richardson and Jean Moy, they lost 15-10, a close game but dropping a 3 on the 18th end, this made the score look worse than it was. The ladies rink was skipped by Jean Matthews who lost to a very strong Rosehill ladies rink, Jean had Shirley Ellis, Toni Lacey and Linda Dunford with her, going down 9-24.
The Park Hill Trophy was won by Rye Park 2-1, Alan Blackwell & Brian Holding put on a great performance but went down 16-17 in this very close match. The Men’s triples was skipped by Colin Milner he had a great win 20-13, Colin was assisted by Dave Fussell and John Stevenson all 3 bowlers had great games. The Men’s rink also had a great win 21-15, this was skipped by Bob Hayter assisted by Richard Rogers, Don Stevenson and Walter Richardson, the team all bowled well, This was also a close game but our men picked up two 4’s in the last 4 ends to clinch the win for Rye Park.
Well done to all the bowlers who bowled, also thanks to everybody who turned out to support us. Thanks to all the bowlers who nominated for this match, as you can appreciate it is not easy just picking 9 men and 9 ladies so thank you.

40 men turn out today to play the for The Jack Goff Trophy, Jack was a member at HRPBC and also played for Standon & Puckeridge during his bowling years, Jack also represented EHBA on a number of occasions.
The match was played in good spirit. EHBA won well on 3 rinks which was enough to win this trophy for the first time of a few years. We had two winning rinks the best being Bob Hayter’s rink winning 34-14, after being down at half way, 9-12, they certainly pick the right cups of tea. Bobs rink was Alan Bull, Dave Lofthouse and Peter Francis. Dave Fussell also won leaving it late to win 21-20 on the final end, Dave was assisted by Ron Wilson, Greg Dunford and Terry Eldridge. An excellent match played in the right spirit. Hertford Castle led the way from the start, HRPBC were always behind but we never gave up. Well done Hertford Castle and good luck in the next round.
